Whale watching - Can be spotted from mid-December through mid-May. It is estimated that two-thirds of the North Pacific humpback whale population migrates to the Hawaiian Islands each year.

Fishing - The waters off of Kauai are some of the best for catching Pacific Blue Marlin or the Striped Marlin.

Scuba Diving - Kauai's clear waters are prime for diving.

Best dive spots:

Sheraton Caverns, off Poipu - Abundant with fish, steep rock ledges
Aquariums, near Nawiliwili - shallow, home to many octopus & lobster
Black Mountain, on south side of Kauai near Kipu Kai - lobster & fish
Brenneckes Ledge - 2 large caves with rare black coral

Snorkeling - Waters include many spots with great coral and sealife including the gentle sea turtles.

Surfing - The big waves hit the north shore between November and March.
